The Mohegan Sun's earth entrance, located on the north side of the casino complex, is scheduled to open to the public today. A ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
Inside the entrance a newly refurbished food court and two restaurants with their own seating - Pepe's Pizza and Bobby's Burger Palace - will begin serving casino patrons. The food court will feature what are being called "quick serve" food outlets: Jasper White's Summer Shack Express, The Original Soup Man, Woodland Wok and Chief's Bagels, Subs & Sweets.
The earth entrance has been closed since May 2008, just over a year after slot revenue began to decline, to make way for construction that was to include a high-rise hotel. The hotel construction was halted four months later.
Tonight will also be the first night of a fireworks display that will be held every Wednesday until the beginning of September. Visitors can watch the fireworks from the rooftop of the Riverview Garage.
