The Mohegan Wigwam Festival will be held at Fort Shantok this Saturday, August 15th, between the hours of 11 a.m. and 6 p.m.
The one-day event - also known within the Tribe as the Green Corn Festival - is free to the public. Members of the public are asked to park at the casinos and catch shuttle buses to Fort Shantok from either the casino's bus lobby or the Thamesview garage. The last shuttle will leave Fort Shantok around 7 p.m.
Grand entry is at noon. The host drum is Red War Pony of Virginia. Mystic River Drum, and surely Unity Drum, will also be at the event.
The Wigwam Festival will be only one day this year. The Tribe announced that financial constraints are the reason for the shortened event.
One Tribal member asked what other powwows are going on this weekend since he will be unable to go to Fort Shantok. Other powwows on the East Coast that are planned for this weekend are the Red Hawks Gathered Nations Pow Wow (436 South Main Street, King, North Carolina) and the 29th Annual Roasting Ears of Corn Festival (2825 Fish Hatchery Rd., Allentown, Pennsylvania).
